The act of undressing reveals imprints on the skin that remain once clothing has been removed. These imprints slowly vanish, even during the process of photographing a subject. Yet they often reappear in the very same places upon redressing. All bodies, no matter their size, are subject to the friction of clothing against the skin, leaving a private mapping that undermines the classic nude with surprising beauty and sensuality. At the same time, feminine undergarments confine bodies, and even breath, with the same rigidity that perpetuates gender roles. These imprints may be profoundly beautiful; yet they are physical reminders of constraints and limitations. This series of photographs undulates between beauty and the discomforting reality of gender specific roles.
